Rotax Max Challenge Malaysia & Asia Max Challenge 2012 Round 1
18 – 19 February 2012
Once again rushing up to Malaysia after school on Friday evening, Sean had to miss one and a half days of practice prior to the weekend’s race – Round 1 of the Rotax Max Challenge (RMC) and Asia Max Challenge (AMC) at PLUS Speedway in Subang, Malaysia where he competed in the 29-driver Senior class.
Eager to start the RMC 2012 championship season well, Sean was disappointed to learn upon arrival that the new engines for his kart were stuck at customs. Like him, the rest of IS Racing drivers suffered the same fate and as a result, struggled with pace all weekend with old practice engines and chassis setup problems.
Nonetheless, Sean and the team did their best to maximise performance from the kart. Qualifying in 25th, Sean fought hard and came in 18th for Heat 1, then 13th in Heat 2. He managed to cross the line in 13th for the pre-final but after a good start in the final that had him up to 9th, a crash caused by another driver ruined his race.
He said, “It was a really tough weekend from beginning to end for us and the team. We were struggling with chassis setup as well as engine problems. I met with an accident, causing me not to finish. Despite all the problems, I just want to thank IS Racing for the huge effort in trying to improve the overall setup. All I can say is that we have a lot of work to do for the next race.”
Round 2 of the RMC and AMC will be held on 17 – 18 March back at PLUS Speedway.
Qualifying – 25th
Heat 1 – 18th
Heat 2 – 13th
